The sound of sneakers, the thud of bodies meeting in the paint and the swish of a ball rolling in off the glass filled the court. For two full days, our NBA Basketball School Finishing Camp was all about one thing: getting to the basket and finishing.

Getting past your defender is one thing. Scoring once you’re there is another. This camp was built to close that gap.

Fearless at the Rim

Finishing at the basket takes courage. The paint is crowded, defenders are bigger, and blocked shots come with the territory.

At our camp, players learned that the only way to become a great finisher is to keep going back. They took one attempt after another, through every block, every bump and every layup that spun out. Failing wasn’t the problem. Not learning from it was.

After each missed finish, campers took a moment to work out what happened. Was the takeoff too early? Should they have used the other hand? Did they lean away from contact instead of into it? Then they went straight back to the rim with the answer, and each attempt was a little sharper than the one before.

The Finisher’s Toolkit

Over the two days, campers added five key tools to their game:

1. Footwork that sets up everything
A great finish starts long before the ball leaves your hands. Players mastered their approach steps, timing and takeoff, so they arrived at the rim balanced and in control.

2. A weak hand that isn’t weak anymore
Smart defenders take away your strong side, so campers spent plenty of time on their other hand. By the end of the camp, left-handed and right-handed layups looked a lot more alike.

3. Moves that keep defenders guessing
The euro step, the reverse layup, the floater and the up-and-under. Campers didn’t just learn these moves. They learned when each one beats the defender in front of them.

4. Strength through contact
Pads, live defenders and plenty of physical drills taught players to welcome contact instead of avoiding it. They learned to stay strong, keep their eyes on the rim and finish anyway, even if a foul was called.

5. Quick thinking in traffic
With help defenders rotating over, players have a split second to decide. Coaches trained campers to read the defense and pick the right finish without hesitating.

From First Drive to Final Day

The difference between the first session and the last was clear. Players who hesitated at the start of camp were attacking the basket with purpose by the end. They finished with both hands, absorbed contact and pulled out moves they hadn’t tried two days earlier.

Certificates Earned, Not Given

To close the camp, every player was awarded an official certificate of completion, a reminder of two days of sweat, effort and growth.

The real reward could be seen on their faces. Each camper walked away with fire in their eyes, a clear goal in mind and the determination to come back better every single day.

Thank You

A big thank you to our campers, their families and our coaching team for making this Finishing Camp one to remember. The rim is waiting, and we can’t wait to see what these players do next.
